ANNE LABASTILLE

(1933-2011)

               Anne LaBastille was an author, photographer, and ecologist. She served as the Adirondack Park Agency commissioner for 17 years. She was Cornell’s second female natural resources student and earned her Ph.D. in wildlife ecology. She also helped establish the first national wildlife refuge in Guatemala (The Wilderness Society). She is most famous for her photos from international travels of which many have been published. She was a pioneer in the research of acid rain and, in 1980, helped to enact Acid Deposition Act, a 10-year government research program (Adirondack Almanack).
